The Usher Ministry

An Usher is an officer of the church that he or she serves. An Usher is one who welcomes strangers, they are doorkeepers, they are forerunners, or they are the ones who walk before person(s) of rank.

Since church ushering is a sacrificial service, the appropriate word to be used in describing the usher and their work, is "service". The purpose of the church usher is to promote the divine worship of the church. To render service of any kind, effectively, there must be some preparation made. Maintaining order and decency is one of the objectives of the church usher, "Let all things be done decently and in order" (1 Corinthians 4: 40). The service of the usher is to be recommended, for they serve as good soldiers no matter what the test may be. They stand; the accept the criticism of others and act with poise and dignity in difficult situations. Their service influences, not only the work of the minister, the choir, or the musician, but the entire congregation. Ushers should thank God for being permitted to render service in his/her church. " I had rather be a door- keeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness". (Psalm 84: 10)
